Scientists have created a new man-made intelligence tool that can predict who will die from COVID-19. Amazingly, the tool can make its prediction with up to 90% accuracy.
Researches used data from nearly 4,000 COVID-19 individuals to train their AI tools and then find patterns in that data.
Professor Mads Nielsen of the university of Copenhagen says that the new tool could be used to try and predict who must receive a vaccine before others based on their mortality rate. The data could also be used to make sure that the right resources are redirected to certain hospitals.
We are working towards a goal that we must be able to predict the need for respirators five days ahead by giving the computer access to health data on all COVID positives in the region. The computer will never be able to replace a doctor’s assessment, but it can help doctors and hospitals see lots of COVID-19 infected individuals at once and set ongoing priorities.
According to the data collected and spat out by the new tool things like a person’s BMI and age have the greatest impact on whether a COVID-19 individual would be able to survive the ordeal or not. issues like asthma, heart disease, and diabetes are also notable.
“For those affected by one or a lot more of these parameters, we have found that it may make sense to step them up in the vaccine queue, to avoid any risk of them becoming infected and eventually ending up on a respirator,” said Nielsen.
